The best in the world of engineering will be celebrated this winter when the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) Ambition and Achievement awards are announced.
The Ambition awards include 130 separate scholarships, grants, award programmes and initiatives. The awards are aimed at young people either at school, college, university, or in the early stages of their career and reward talent with a grant to support their education or an award in recognition of a particular achievement.
The Achievement awards include 47 separate categories. The awards recognise individual achievements, lifetime contributions and best technical papers throughout the world.
IET Chief Executive, Robin McGill, said: “The Ambition and Achievement awards recognise excellence at all stages in engineering careers from those entering the profession, right through to more senior professionals at the pinnacle of their careers.  The awards, which have true global recognition, provide an opportunity to celebrate outstanding individuals in the world of engineering.”
The awards are jointly sponsored by a number of leading companies in the engineering industry: Pace Micro Technology, IBM, BP International, AREVA T&D, EDF Energy, RS Components and BAE Systems.
The presentation of the awards will be made at a ceremony at the Riverbank Park Plaza Hotel in London on 3 November 2008.
